There are two types of concrete stain. Reactive and Non-reactive. Reactive stains are water-based acidic solutions that contain metallic salts that react with the concrete’s lime content. Once the chemical reaction takes place, the stain forms a permanent bond with the concrete and won’t chip off or peel away. Non-reactive stains are water-based acrylic stains that don’t rely on a chemical reaction to impart color. Instead, they penetrate the concrete surface and only deposit their pigment particles into the open pores. Concrete staining adds character to your surfaces instead of providing it with a solid effect like paint or colored coating. Stains permeate the concrete rich, translucent tones. It is also important to consider that even when staining different areas with the same stain and shade that no two surfaces will ever look the same.
